Sarcopenia, the decrease in strength and/or muscle mass that occours with ageing, is a very frequent condition amoung elderly classes and an important topic for health systems. The causes of this condition and the pathophysiological mechanisms of sarcopenia are not yet fully understood. The scientific literature says that there is an anabolic resistance in old populations and it increases with ageing, showing that elderly subjects have resting protein turnover values similar to that of young subjects but are unable to respond adequately to anabolic stimuli. For these reasons, it's important to follow a physical activity program, especially focused on strength training, associated with a good food plan, with particular attention to the quantity and quality of amino acids.

Abstract
Sarcopenia, the decrease in strength and/or muscle mass that occours with ageing, is a very frequent condition amoung elderly classes and an important topic for health systems. The causes of this condition and the pathophysiological mechanisms of sarcopenia are not yet fully understood. The scientific literature says that there is an anabolic resistance in old populations and it increases with ageing, showing that elderly subjects have resting protein turnover values similar to that of young subjects but are unable to respond adequately to anabolic stimuli. For these reasons, it's important to follow a physical activity program, especially focused on strength training, associated with a good food plan, with particular attention to the quantity and quality of amino acids.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
