The thesis analyses the role of the United Nations in the Rwandan genocide (from April to July 1994). From an historical overview of the conflict between Hutu and Tutsi, it explores the United Nations' intervention, the UNAMIR peace-keeping mission, and the reasons for its failure. The Rwandan genocide is also presented as an example of failing power-sharing. In the end, it deepens how the United Nations has adopted strategies for condemning the Rwandan genocide and to prevent new mass atrocities.
