Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is widely used as a measure of well-being all around the world. The idea of a single statistic that is able to show the level of well-being is without a doubt very useful but at the same time it is limited since well-being is a multidimensional concept and it should not be reduced only to its economical component. This is why new measures of well-being that take into account other factors are being proposed in order to have a more accurate and wider view of the levels of well-being around the world. The development and implementation of different measures is already a reality in some countries and it is helping to diversify and question the focus of some political decisions and to help policy-makers to designed policies that have a real impact.
