Abstract

This thesis aims to focus attention on refining methods defined as "green" in the field of metallurgy of precious metals. In particular, reference will be made to the distillation of Silver deriving from secondary alloys. Analyzing the precious metals refining sector we find few innovations regarding eco-sustainability. In fact, traditional processes are often characterized by the use of very harmful gases, acids or solutions, both for workers and for the environment. The technology presented in this work represents a turning point compared to the most commonly used techniques. In fact, based on the principle of vacuum distillation, it does not involve the use of the substances mentioned above. The basis of the project is to be able to obtain the largest quantity of 999.9 Silver from an alloy of approximately 6000g created specifically for these analyses, with the composition: 99.1% Ag 0.5% Au 0.2% Cu 0.2% Pb Seven distillation phases were carried out, in the first of which most of the Pb, the main contaminating element, was almost completely eliminated. Investigation on refining process of secondary Silver Alloys by Vacuum Distillation
