This thesis aims at evaluating the way in which Machine Translation is today capable of translating legal language from English into Italian, with special reference to subject-field terms and phrases. Specifically, it provides an analysis of the return orders issued to solve cases of International Child Abduction. Therefore, after an overview of legal translation and its main features, international child abduction and the reception of the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, and the functioning of machine translation, some selected return orders issued by different English-speaking countries will be machine translated. A qualitative and quantitative analysis of the output generated by DeepL will follow, which consists in the analysis and classification of subject-language errors and a subsequent evaluation of the translation according to the Dynamic Quality Framework developed by TAUS.
