This research focuses on the development of alchemical symbology handed down from antiquity in an attempt to interpret the forces that govern nature and existence up to the profound meaning of the alchemical images and symbols summarized in the figure of the hermaphrodite. The symbolic language of medieval alchemy is the whole of the rich collection that includes the symbols of the cosmogonies and religions of the different cultures of antiquity. We also find this collection in the history of art. The symbol expresses and satisfies the need to unify the human world with the divine. It also aims to analyze the concepts developed by philosophers, theologians and scientists who are contained in the figure of the alchemical hermaphrodite whose iconography was established and disseminated through the manuscripts created in the Middle Ages. Alchemy as a doctrine, as a science of nature or as a spiritual research acts through the transformation of matter, in this sense, we want to finally analyze how the creative and transforming act of alchemy is an analogy of artistic creation in a material sense but also spiritual.

Abstract
Alchemy as a doctrine, as a science of nature or as a spiritual research acts through the transformation of matter, in this sense, we want to finally analyze how the creative and transforming act of alchemy is an analogy of artistic creation in a material sense but also spiritual.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
