La foresta di Fontainebleau: evoluzione storico-ambientale e culturale di una riserva di biodiversità dal Medioevo ad oggi

By virtue of its geographical location and geological formation, the forest of Fontainebleau has given rise to a kaleidoscopic mosaic of landscape, flora and fauna. The heathland is interspersed with desolate moors and rugged rocks towering upon stretches of white sand, creating an extraordinary habitat for numerous animal and plant species. Since the Middle Ages, the peculiarity of its landscape as well as its proximity to Paris have attracted French monarchs, who loved to retreat away from the boisterous capital and spend their leisure hunting. The close relationship that nature lovers, painters and writers in search of inspiration have always enjoyed with the forest has enabled the preservation of its biodiversity. Numerous battles have been fought in order to achieve a harmonious coexistence of productivity and nature preservation. Since the forest is a historical and natural monument, it must be protected by trying to maintain a balance between tourist and energy exploitation and eco-responsibility. History and Nature must thus be preserved at the same time in order to allow future generations to enjoy this wonderful variety.

Grazie alla sua posizione geografica e alla sua formazione geologica, la foresta di Fontainebleau ha dato origine ad un caleidoscopico mosaico di paesaggio, flora e fauna. Alla brughiera si mescolano infatti lande desolate e ispide rocce che si stagliano su tratti di sabbia bianca, dando luogo ad un habitat straordinario per numerose specie animali e vegetali. Questa sua peculiarità e la sua vicinanza a Parigi hanno attratto fin dal Medioevo i monarchi francesi che amavano ritirarsi lontano dalla capitale per immergersi in un’oasi di pace e dedicarsi alla caccia. Lo stretto legame che appassionati di natura, pittori e scrittori alla ricerca di ispirazione hanno da sempre dimostrato con la foresta ha permesso di preservarne la biodiversità. Numerose sono state le battaglie volte a cercare un equilibrio tra rendimento e tutela della natura. La foresta, quale monumento storico e naturale va quindi salvaguardata cercando di mantenere un equilibrio tra sfruttamento turistico ed energetico ed eco-responsabilità. Storia e Natura vanno quindi preservate di pari passo per poter consegnare questa meravigliosa varietà alle generazioni future.
