Through archival research and secondary sources, this work explores the relationship between politician Giuseppe Zanardelli and the Supreme Courts of Italy during his stint as Minister of Justice in the 1887-1891 period; given the notorious power the Ministry of Justice held over the judicial system in the Kingdom of Italy in the years following the unification, this work aims at uncovering if and how Zanardelli used this power. This is interesting in relations to the several reforms that invested the judiciary at the time. The main archival sources for this work were Zanardelli's papers, which comprise vast material from his time at the Ministry.
