The objective of the following dissertation is to provide a visual and textual analysis of six texts published by organizations including the Italian Protezione Civile, the British government, and the American FEMA. After a brief introduction aimed at defining the concept of emergency and the organizations involved in the three states under consideration, the definition of communication is provided and the mass media used to disseminate news are presented. A chapter devoted to defining language and the model reader to whom the six selected texts listed below are addressed will follow. In Chapters IV and V, visual and textual analysis of the six texts will be dealt with, respectively.
