My research hypothesis concerns the conclusion that facial expressions and gestures indicative of lies are not entirely universal. In support of this hypothesis, I bring to your attention the studies of a group of researchers who have recalculated Paul Ekman's famous ones with greater scientific rigor and when analyzing them most of the results are in contrast with the previous ones. Following the comparison between the previous studies and the most recent ones, it is concluded that one cannot rely on a single indicator to detect emotions and lies, but it is more useful and less prone to evaluation errors to consider several indicators together. It has also been found that the same indicator can take on different meanings depending on the individual and this underlines the ambiguity of the communication and the uniqueness of the individual.
