In this Project, experimental tests and mathematical models were carried out to analyze the behavior of a circular disk subjected to harmonic stress. The purpose is to create a mathematical model that can describe the modes of vibration in air and water, stationary and rotating of a hydraulic turbine. The mathematical model that will be validated will in fact be the starting point for structural analysis of hydraulic turbines, which are the main element of the hydropower plat, are subject to high forces and stresses, so it is important to control them to improve performance, efficiency, and durability. In this area, the EU-funded AFC4Hydro project is developing a monitoring system (SHM) to analyze the working parameters of turbines under both nominal and off-design conditions. This project represents a part of the work developed in UPC, that is centered on the study of the dynamic behavior of a rotating and submerged structure built in the laboratory by the IFLUIDS’s research group. As aforementioned, the aim of that test ring is to develop a SHM system to investigate the dynamic behavior of a hydraulic turbine, operating at off-design and at transient conditions.

Abstract

Analysis of the structural response of a hydraulic turbine: validation of a simplified submerged model
