The main aim of the present research was to assess the legal from-scratch vs post-edited translations produced by second-year MA translation trainees. Specifically, the analysis considered the errors they made, with reference to both their type and degree of severity, the frequency and types of errors in the two types of assignment. The results obtained made it possible to outline the most recurrent problems in from-scratch and post-edited legal translation, point out the influence of MT on the final translated text, and underline the discrepancies between post-editing and translating from scratch.
