Tra Italia e Brasile: la migrazione veneta dagli inizi della colonizzazione alla riscoperta del nazionalismo

This paper aims to analyze the phenomenon of the development of nationalism abroad on the Italian side. The question motivating this research is how it was possible that Venetian peasants who emigrated in the aftermath of the unification of Italy, without having any connection affective ties to the nation they left behind, returned to fight on the occasion of World War I. We chose to analyze the phenomenon through the hermeneutic tools that has made available to us historical anthropology, specifically the microhistorical current, available to us. It, through the example of Professor Biasiori, guided us in our choice of sources; in this regard we chosen to give priority, but not exclusive priority, to a type of sources produced "from below," that is, all that repertoire of writings, oral traditions and memory of the less affluent social strata, who for a long time, not having access to writing, were excluded from the narrative of the history. The evolution of a patriotic spirit, later translated into nationalism with the advent of the Fascist state, shows the need to adopt different points of view; certainly there may be social constants that are repeated in each different situation, but at each different moment the emigrant was called upon to come to terms with the need to reshape his or her identity continuously, poised between his or her culture of origin and the new one of host.

Questo lavoro di ricerca si propone di analizzare il fenomeno dello sviluppo del nazionalismo all'estero per parte Italiana. La domanda che motiva il nostro lavoro è come sia stato possibile che contadini veneti che emigrarono all'indomani dell'unità d'Italia, senza aver alcun legame affettivo con la nazione lasciata, ritornarono in Italia per combattere in occasione della Prima Guerra Mondiale. Si è scelto di analizzare il fenomeno attraverso gli strumenti ermeneutici che ci ha messo a disposizione l'antropologia storica, nello specifico la corrente microstorica. Essa, attraverso l'esempio del professor Biasiori, ci ha guidati nella scelta delle fonti; a questo riguardo si è scelto di dare priorità, ma non esclusiva, ad un tipo di fonti prodotte "dal basso", tutto quel repertorio di scritti, tradizioni orali e memoria delle fasce sociali meno abbienti, i quali per lungo tempo, non avendo accesso alla scrittura, furono esclusi dalla narrazione della storia. L'evoluzione di uno spirito patriottico, poi tradottosi in nazionalismo con l'avvento dello Stato fascista, mostra la necessità di adottare diversi punti di vista; certo ci possono essere delle costanti sociali che si ripetono in ogni differente situazione, ma in ogni diverso momento l'emigrante era chiamato a dover far i conti con la necessità di rimodellare continuamente la propria identità, in bilico tra la propria cultura di provenienza e la nuova di accoglienza.
