The animation industry is becoming an increasingly profitable sector. Statista (2020) shows that in the animation and visual effects industry, a remarkable increase in turnover has been registered in Spain, from 400 million euros, in 2015, to 1,177 million euros in 2020. Due to the strong popularity of animated content in the audiovisual entertainment market, it is important to consider the demand for animated series translated into Spanish. In addition, according to the National Institute of Statistics (2020), in Spain there are 1,230,000 people with hearing disabilities, and the Spanish Law 13/2022, of July 7, confirms the need for accessible audiovisual products for people with a sensory disability. On the basis of these considerations, this audiovisual project complies with the current market demand. It consists of an English to Spanish translation, and accessible subtitles are provided for the deaf and hard-of-hearing. In the project, two episodes of the animates series Courage the Cowardly Dog are presented, they are the episodes four and seven of the first season. The genre of this series is comedy horror, and each episode is twenty-one minutes long. This animated series features several elements that convey humor and terror. For the project to be accessible, it is necessary to take into account that some of these elements can be only perceived through the sound, and therefore, it is essential to include these aspects in the subtitles in order to reproduce both verbal communication and non-verbal communication. The episodes include paralinguistic aspects, prosodic elements and sound elements that are typical of the horror comedy genre. The subtitles are created according to the Standard UNE 153010:2012, but other creative solutions are adopted in order to emphasize the sound, the music and to convey humor or fear. The project demonstrates that it is possible to recreate elements of sound in a written mode that allows deaf people to enjoy the episodes in the same way as non-deaf people.
