The research concerns the use of competitive games for teaching and learning English as a foreign language. Games were carried out in a primary school to examine if they can be valuable classroom activities for language teaching and learning. The study found that competitive games can be a valuable classroom methodology for teaching and learning English as a foreign language. However, games have some considerable disadvantages and their application in the classroom is not always possible. The games provided insights for further research on the use of competitive games as a methodology for teaching and learning English as a foreign language also for students with learning difficulties or disabilities.
