The THRUST student project aims to launch a rocket, also known as a sounding rocket, to a pre-established altitude of 3 km. The rocket features a hybrid propulsion engine in which combustion is achieved using a liquid oxidizer and a solid fuel. The engine was designed by THRUST students: the system of tank, valves, fluidics and combustion chamber is complex and, since it involves combustion, it is not free from risks. The presence of sensors is therefore necessary to monitor the operation of the engine and to characterize its performance. In this thesis, pressure, temperature and thrust sensors are studied and characterized. The requirements that the sensors must satisfy are established, the different types of sensors are studied and following a comparison they are chosen, describing their operating ranges. The sensor data acquisition system is presented with notes on the conditioning circuits. The conversion formulas are obtained which transform the values measured by the microcontroller into the units of measurement corresponding to the physical quantity detected by the sensor. The method used for calibration is described, where necessary, and the uncertainty on the sensor measurement chain is calculated. To conclude, the graphs of the measurements carried out during some tests are presented.

Abstract
To conclude, the graphs of the measurements carried out during some tests are presented.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
