Since the beginning of the year 2020, we have been confronted with the emergence of a new virus, SARS-CoV-2 which, immediately, has manifested itself with high person-to-person transmissibility and in some cases, lethal. In addition to the acute illness caused by this virus, termed COVID-19, the occurrence in children and adults of post-acute sequelae, characterized by cardiac and respiratory dysfunction, mental clouding, post-traumatic stress disorder, mental disorders such as anxiety, depression, and somatic complaints, has been observed. In this study, we aimed to investigate these sequelae, particularly neuropsychological, neuropsychiatric, and emotional-behavioral sequelae, in children, adults, and within households. Forty-six families were enrolled, with a total of 158 participants (77 children and 81 parents), who were administered a number of standardized tests to assess psychological, emotional, and behavioral changes and the presence of posttraumatic symptoms in individual participants and within households. Based on socio-demographic and COVID-19 related factors, significant differences emerged regarding related stress symptoms (physical, behavioral, emotional, and cognitive) in children, also within the households a correlation emerged between children's and parents' stress, the presence of stress in children or parents decrees the increase of stress in others.
