This thesis aims to investigate the state of the art of Hysteric-Histrionic Personality Disorder. The investigation is carried out on two different levels of observation: psychoanalysis and neuroscience. On the one hand, by adopting an embodied perspective of personality pathology, which rejects a split between mind and body towards a point of view that considers the human as an indivisible somatopsychic unit, hysterical-histrionic personality disorder is explored in its expression on cerebral organ. In particular, a systematic review was carried out with the aim of collecting all the scientific contributions dealing with this personality disorder and its biological correlates. Using the PRISMA guidelines (Page et al., 2021) and certain inclusion and exclusion criteria, three scientific articles deemed suitable for the purpose of the review were selected. The small number of scientific publications on the topic forces a reflection on the nature and validity of the diagnostic construct, which appears to be little studied from a neuroscientific point of view. The thesis further expands into an observation of the Hysterical-Histrionic Personality from a psychoanalytic point of view. A psychoanalytic look at this particular personality includes a description of the origins of Freud and Breuer's (1895) theorization of hysteria which coincides with the introduction of psychoanalysis in the West. Furthermore, the hysterical-histrionic personality is analyzed in its relational functioning, in the psychodynamics from which it originates, and in its phenomenological description to shed light on first-person experience. Overall, this paper therefore has the objective of proposing a complete and coherent vision of the current state of the art of Hysteric-Histrionic Personality Disorder.
