San Sebastiano e il tema della salvezza

The elaborate in question wants to make known and deal with the figure of Saint Sebastian, one of the most important and fluent saints, through the iconographic analysis of the masterpieces that over the centuries have made him a undisputed protagonist. Among these, a significant importance has been reserved for a much rarer and more particular representation, always forming part of the life of the martyr: the salvation that is reserved for him and guaranteed thanks to Irene, a Roman matron who heals him from the certain death procured by the first martyrdom. In this way the theme of redemption and holiness is treated, without neglecting the other different and related facets that derive from his figure and legend.

Con l'elaborato in questione si è voluto rendere nota e trattare la figura di San Sebastiano, uno dei più importanti e fluenti santi, attraverso l'analisi iconografica delle opere che nel corso dei secoli l'hanno reso un protagonista indiscusso. Tra queste, una rilevante importanza è stata riservata a una raffigurazione ben più rara e particolare, sempre facente parte della vita del martire: la salvezza che gli viene riservata e garantita grazie a Irene, matrona romana che lo risana e guarisce dalla morte sicura procuratagli dal primo martirio. Viene in questo modo trattato il tema della salvezza e della santità, senza tralasciare le altre differenti e relative sfacettature che dalla sua figura e leggenda derivano.
