The intent of this thesis is that of analysing the European Privacy Regulation focusing on the Italian model and on the case of ChatGPT. Understanding privacy regulation is important to understand how both the present and past society work, but also how and to what extent people’s rights are respected and taken into consideration. This thesis focuses first on the history of privacy, trying to unravel how the concept of privacy was born and where it originates. There is also the attempt to show the several meanings that privacy has, and to help readers understand the complexity of this topic, which is perceived differently in every part of the world. The thesis then analyses in detail the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), trying to discuss its main points and to explain its meaning and purpose. This introduces the concept of privacy and the privacy regulation in Italy, which is also discussed in detail. The thesis is also important to learn more about the several authorities that are behind the creation and implementation of privacy regulation rules, in order to gain a better understanding of the topic. To conclude the thesis, there will also be a focus on the recent and controversial case of ChatGPT. The aim is that of understanding how companies need to adapt to the GDPR in order to satisfy all the requirements that it sets, but also to show how the GDPR and how privacy regulation in general can influence the use of artificial intelligence.

Abstract
