The paper focuses on the investigation of the representation of the monster within the realm of posthuman thought. Initially, clear definitions of the terms "monster", "posthuman", and "transhuman" will be provided. Subsequently, the analysis shifts its focus to two classics from the Nineteenth-Century, considering two fundamental elements of the posthuman: the machine and the animal. The two texts under examination are Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus and The Island of Doctor Moreau. In both novels, an in-depth exploration of the posthuman and transhuman aspects of the characters and situations described takes place. Finally, the analysis extends to subsequent adaptations of these novels through various works, thus allowing for an examination of the evolution of the perception and representation of the monster's body within the context of various reinterpretations.

L'elaborato si concentra sull'indagine della rappresentazione del mostro nell'ambito del pensiero postumano. Inizialmente verranno fornite chiare definizioni dei termini "mostro", "postumano" e "transumano". In seguito, l'analisi si orienta verso due classici dell'Ottocento, prendendo in considerazione due elementi fondamentali del postumano: la macchina e l'animale. I due testi in analisi sono Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus e The Island of Doctor Moreau. In entrambi i romanzi, si procede all'approfondimento della componente postumana e transumana dei personaggi e delle situazioni descritte. Infine, l'analisi si estende alle rappresentazioni successive di questi romanzi attraverso diverse opere di adattamento, consentendo così di esaminare l'evoluzione della percezione e della rappresentazione del corpo del mostro nel contesto delle varie reinterpretazioni.
