During my Erasmus experience, when I was at the University of Le Mans, I had the opportunity to visit the Musée de Tessé and I saw a series of paintings relating to Paul Scarron's “Le roman comique”, published in two parts in 1651 and 1657 and then left unfinished, the reading of which convinced me to choose it as the subject of my final dissertation. First of all, I'd like to talk about his style. In “Le Roman comique”, Scarron demonstrates his ability to express himself in a polyphony of literary styles, but it is above all the comparison between the courtly style and the realistic style that develops throughout the basic narrative. The first stems from his knowledge of the classics, medieval court romances recounting the events of the Breton and Carolingian cycles, pastoral romances and the heroic or precious romances of his time. The second is certainly the result of his life experience, enriched by the ability to absorb a truthful and perceptive vision of the world around him or which was the object of his experience in the course of his life. I will follow the following path: in the first chapter I will consider the birth of the novelistic genre in seventeenth-century France with influences derived from humanism and the Italian Renaissance, as well as from Spanish literature of the “siglo de oro” with the specificity of Cervantes. In Chapter II, I will develop the following themes: the parallelism with Heliodorus's "Ethiopics", the honesty embodied by certain characters as philosophical behaviour and good manners; the metanarrative of the author who confides in the reader in a continuous dialogue; the different literary genres used; the author's personal style that distinguishes them. In Chapter III, I will compare the two dominant styles: romance and realism. Finally, I will add the conclusions and the introduction with which I will present the work I have done.
De mon expérience Erasmus, alors que je fréquentais l'Université du Mans, j'ai eu l'occasion de remarquer au musée de Tessé une série de tableaux relatifs à Le roman comique de Paul Scarron, édité in deux parties en 1651 et 1657 et puis inachevé, dont la lecture m'a convaincu de le choisir comme thème de mon mémoire de fin d’études. Tout d’abord je parle du style. Dans Le Roman comique, Scarron démontre qu'il a la capacité de s'exprimer dans une polyphonie de styles littéraires, mais c'est surtout la comparaison entre le style courtois et le style réaliste que se développe tout au long du récit de base. Le premier découle de sa connaissance des classiques, des romans de cours médiévaux qui racontent les événements des cycles breton et carolingien, des romans pastoraux, enfin des romans de style héroïque ou précieux de son époque. Le second est certainement le résultat de son expérience de vie, enrichie par la capacité d'absorber une vision véridique et perspicace du monde qui l'entoure ou qui a fait l'objet de son expérience au cours de sa vie. Je vais suivre le chemin suivant : dans le premier chapitre je prendrais en considération la naissance du genre romanesque en France au XVIIe siècle avec les influences dérivées de l'humanisme et de la Renaissance italienne, ainsi que de la littérature espagnole du « siglo de oro » avec la spécificité de Cervantès. Dans le chapitre II je développerais les thèmes suivants : le parallélisme avec les « Ethiopiques » d'Héliodore, l'honnêteté incarnée par certains personnages comme comportement philosophique et du savoir-vivre ; le métarécit de l'auteur qui se confie au lecteur dans un dialogue continu ; les différents genres littéraires utilisés ; le style personnel de l'auteur qui les distingue. Au chapitre III, je comparerais les deux styles dominants : le romanesque et le réalisme. J'ajouterais enfin les conclusions et l'introduction avec lesquelles je vais présenter le travail effectué.
