Transumanza in Transilvania: cultura e tradizione in un clima e società in evoluzione

The subject is transhumance, an activity that man has been carrying out for millennia in harmony with the surrounding environment. In particular, we refer to transhumance in its entirety, as a source of life, therefore the work of man with the flocks. It is also examined in a part of the world where this activity still represents an effective economic resource, i.e. in the Transylvania region, in Romania. The transhumance activity in itself concerns the fulfillment of a cyclical journey that repeats itself every year. The word journey is also a metaphor for life and also refers to the condition of those on the road, of those who move towards a specific destination. From this point of view, therefore, "who is on the way", the meeting with the Transylvanian shepherds in completing their journey made it possible to see, in a direct and authentic way, with what feeling and difficulty this activity is carried out. The aspect of identity is therefore leveraged in the analysis of transhumance in the Carpathian mountains, in Transylvania. Why does the activity continue in this area, after millennia, when in most industrialized countries or countries projected towards the tertiary sector it has long been abandoned or has left only faint traces? This question will be the subject of in-depth analysis of the thesis, through interviews and questionnaires submitted to the pastors. The aim is therefore to identify the aspects that have been, are and may in the future be decisive in carrying out transhumance and sheep farming.

Il soggetto è la transumanza , un’attività che l’uomo compie da millenni in armonia con l’ambiente che lo circonda. In particolare, ci si riferisce alla transumanza nella sua interezza, come fonte di vita, quindi il lavoro dell’uomo con i greggi. Si esamina inoltre in una parte del mondo dove questa attività rappresenta ancora un’effettiva risorsa economica, ovvero nella regione della Transilvania, in Romania. L’attività di transumanza di per sé riguarda il compiersi di un viaggio ciclico che si ripete ogni anno. La parola viaggio inoltre è una metafora della vita e rimanda altresì, alla condizione di chi è sulla via, di chi si muove verso una specifica meta. In quest’ottica quindi, “di chi è sulla via”, l’incontro con i pastori transilvani nel compiere del loro percorso ha permesso di vedere, in maniera diretta ed autentica, con quale sentimento e difficoltà quest’attività viene svolta. Sull’aspetto dell’identità quindi si fa leva nell’analisi della transumanza nei monti Carpazi, in Transilvania. Perché l’attività permane in quest’area, a distanza di millenni, quando nella maggior parte dei paesi industrializzati o proiettati verso il terziario da molto è stata abbandonata o ha lasciato soltanto flebili tracce? Questo interrogativo sarà oggetto di analisi approfondita della tesi, mediante interviste e questionari sottoposti ai pastori. Lo scopo è quindi di individuare gli aspetti che sono stati, che sono e che potranno in futuro essere, determinanti nel compimento della transumanza e dell’attività di pastorizia.
