“Borderlands, tradurre l’identità e il genere tra due sponde”

This text analyzes the concept of Border for Gloria Anzaldúa. "Borderlands, The New Mestiza" aim at being a political text which condemns the oppression of cultures such as Chicano culture, the author's culture of origin. Gloria Anzaldúa communicates how Borderlands manifests itself under different points of view: not only is it a physical place, but also an identity crisis, a gender crisis, and a linguistic border. At the same time, it is outlined how Borderlands can be a place of rebirth, a place of new possibilities to reinvent oneself and give life to new things, such as Borderlands, a text which is impossible to categorize into any other literary genre, a unique masterpiece for its structure, language, and themes. In this text, I am going to analyze not only the themes of the work and its interpretation, but also the translation challenges of a border language. The goal is to demonstrate how the masterpiece becomes a point of reference for all those people, who do not fit into cultural paradigms, which represent roles imposed by society and how the masterpiece creates a space for people who live at the margins of society and how it develops a new cultural awareness for those people.

Abstract En este texto se analiza el concepto de Frontera para Gloria Anzaldúa. “Borderlands, The New Mestiza” quiere ser un texto político y un grito de denuncia contra la opresión de culturas como la Chicana, cultura de origen de la autora. Gloria Anzaldúa comunica como La Frontera se manifiesta bajo diferentes puntos de vistas: no solo es un lugar físico, sino que también se manifiesta como una crisis de identidad, una crisis de género y una frontera lingüística. Al mismo tiempo, se delinea como la Frontera puede ser un lugar de renacimiento, un lugar de nuevas posibilidades para reinventarse y dar vida a cosas nuevas, como Borderlands, un texto que no se identifica con ningún otro género literario, una obra única por su estructura, lenguaje y temas. En este texto, no solo se analizan los temas de la obra y su interpretación, sino que también se analizan las dificultades de traducción de un lenguaje fronterizo. El objetivo es el de demonstrar como la obra logra convertirse en un punto de referencia para todas aquellas personas que no encajan en los paradigmas que representan determinados roles culturales impuestos por la sociedad, creando un espacio para las personas que viven al margen y desarrollando una nueva consciencia cultural
