The progress of power electronics depends heavily on the use of high frequencies. One of the components that has been most affected by this change is the transformer, which can be made with dimensions and weights well below those of conventional low-frequency transformers. In this thesis, fundamental issues related to high frequencies in electronic systems are first presented, such as that concerning the choice of core material and issues related to the effects of high-frequency alternating current on conductors. Next, the design of a transformer takes place through an approach based on the relationship between the power handle capability of the machine and the area product (column cross-section area and window area). Finite element analysis using software such as Matlab and FEMM is then presented, and finally, the results of practical tests performed on the transformer made according to the design are reported. The objective of this thesis is twofold: to provide a general and objective procedure for the design of a high-frequency transformer and to compare the results from analytical operations, finite element simulations and practical measurements.
