Over the last five decades, the topic of sustainability has gained immense significance in contemporary society, transcending the realm of environmental concerns to encompass broader social, economic, and ethical dimensions. The concept of sustainability has evolved into a multifaceted construct that encompasses the responsible use of resources, the mitigation of environmental impacts, and the promotion of social equity and economic development. Sustainability has become an essential consideration for businesses, governments, and individuals alike as it pertains to ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come. The underlying principle of sustainability is to fulfill existing demands while safeguarding the ability of future generations to achieve their own (Our Common Future, 1987). This principle calls for a balanced and responsible approach towards utilizing natural resources, where the needs of the present are met without compromising the ability of the future to fulfill their own needs. To achieve sustainability, it is essential to maintain a balance between protecting the environment, promoting social well-being, and advancing economically. This requires a departure from traditional business models (Baumgartner, 2009; Starik & Kanashiro, 2013). To comprehend intricate organizational dynamics, metaphors drawn from everyday language can be incredibly effective, according to Morgan (2011). This concept is vital from a business and academic perspective, where sustainable practices are recognized as a crucial component of long-term success and resilience. Organizations in today's constantly evolving business landscape require strategic and competitive advantages to thrive. Knowledge management is the primary means by which this can be achieved. It involves continuous learning, improvement, and growth for the organization and its individuals. Proper knowledge management is crucial for creating value and enhancing the enterprise's competitiveness in the market. Conversely, failing to prioritize knowledge management can impede organizational sustainability and hinder progress. Therefore, investing in knowledge management initiatives is essential for organizations seeking long-term success (Kavalić et al., 2021). THE PURPOSE OF MY DISSERTATION. The focus of this dissertation is to investigate the correlation between metaphors and organizational sustainability. The primary objective is to elucidate the strategic significance and practical applications of this relationship. The thesis aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of organizational sustainability through the lens of metaphors. It seeks to examine sustainability discourse and its tangible implications by exploring the interplay between metaphors and organizational dynamics. The research is intended to offer actionable strategies for fostering sustainability within businesses. The ultimate goal of this research is to enhance our comprehension of organizational sustainability and its impact on business practices and societal well-being.
