The European Investment Bank (EIB) has transformed itself from a financial actor to a policymaker in Europe. This research aims to understand the EIB’s transition into a climate bank, investigating the motivations, and dynamics that led to the political shift in banks’ role. This study also explores the consequences of this shift on the bank’s operations and lending policies. The significance of this research lies in its aim to explore the evolution of a financial organization into an active player in the EU governance contributing to climate change, environmental politics and green finance.
