The thesis deals with the Liberty and Dèco ceramic decorations of the mansion palaces in Milan built in the first two decades of the 20th century. The subject is introduced by an overview of the history and technique of the ceramics, to examine the advent of the World Fairs of the early 1900s which set off a renew of the decorative arts. The Milanese ceramics are analysed in a broad geographical context, showing their connections with the decorative arts of the Vienna Secession.
La tesi affronta il tema delle decorazioni ceramiche liberty e dèco nelle facciate dei palazzi milanesi dell’inizio del XX secolo. L’argomento è introdotto da una panoramica della storia e della tecnica della ceramica, per esaminare, quindi, il fenomeno delle Esposizioni Universali di inizio ‘900 che hanno consacrato il rinnovamento delle arti decorative moderniste. Le ceramiche milanesi, esaminate in un contesto geografico ampio, mettono in evidenza i rapporti di con le arti decorative della secessione viennese.
