Exploring Secondary Victimization in Domestic Violence: A Scoping Review and Case Study in Bridging the Gap Between Research and Practice

Domestic violence is a pervasive societal issue with far-reaching physical, emotional, and psychological consequences. This scoping review addresses the phenomenon of secondary victimization within the context of domestic violence, encompassing psychological, legal, and health-related dimensions. It aims to bridge the gap between empirical evidence and survivors' narratives, recognizing the profound impact on their lives. The research also incorporates qualitative insights from survivors gathered through an interview conducted within an antiviolence centre to understand secondary victimization comprehensively. This holistic approach sheds light on the issue's complexity and informs future interventions and support mechanisms for survivors of domestic violence. The study responds to a notable gap in the existing literature, emphasizing the need to systematically examine secondary victimization in the broader spectrum of domestic violence.
