Dal Novellino al dizionario di De Mauro. Uno spaccato del mutamento semantico.

The goal of this paper is to investigate how and how much the lexicon has changed in the passage from the ancient Tuscan to the contemporary Italian standard. Therefore, we will proceed by categorizing and analyzing the lexicon used in Novellino , a collection of Tuscan novels dating back to the thirteenth century. In particular, we will examine nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs and prepositions, then comparing the terms characterizing each lexical category with those of the New Basic Vocabulary of the Italian language (NVdB ). This comparison will lead to a new classification divided into three categories: words absent in the NVdB, words present in the NVdB that have changed meaning and, finally, words absent in the NVdB but sharing the root with terms present in the same vocabulary. The analysis will show that many words taken from Novellino have been characterized by the linguistic phenomenon of semantic change and will also discuss lexical specialization and the semantic areas in which these changes occur. Finally, questions will be raised about the criteria for compiling the NVdB , lemmar that seems to exclude many words belonging to the fundamental lexicon, the lexicon of high use and the lexicon of high availability.

L’obiettivo di questo elaborato è indagare come e quanto sia cambiato il lessico nel passaggio dal toscano antico all’italiano standard contemporaneo. Pertanto, si procederà categorizzando e analizzando il lessico impiegato ne Il Novellino, una raccolta di novelle toscane risalenti al Duecento. In modo particolare, si esamineranno sostantivi, aggettivi, verbi, avverbi e preposizioni, confrontando poi i lemmi caratterizzanti ciascuna categoria lessicale con quelli del Nuovo Vocabolario di Base della lingua italiana (NVdB). Questo confronto porterà a una nuova classificazione divisa in tre categorie: parole assenti nel NVdB, parole presenti nel NVdB ma che hanno mutato significato e, infine, parole assenti nel NVdB ma che condividono la radice con lemmi presenti nel medesimo vocabolario. L'analisi metterà in luce che alcuni vocaboli tratti da Il Novellino sono stati caratterizzati dal fenomeno linguistico del mutamento semantico. Pertanto, si discuterà dei meccanismi semantici legati a tale mutamento e degli ambiti semantici delle parole che hanno mutato significato. Infine, saranno sollevati interrogativi sui criteri di compilazione del NVdB, lemmario che sembra escludere numerose parole appartenenti al lessico fondamentale, al lessico di alto uso e al lessico di alta disponibilità.
