Backgroung: the recent COVID-19 pandemic has severely tested healthcare systems, leading to the need to increase the workforce in all sectors and in particular that of long-term care, which has proved to be the most fragile. In order to increase the capacity to respond and to guarantee the satisfaction of patients' needs, in several Italian regions and as a forerunner the Veneto Region, with DGR 650/2022 a complementary training course for the OSS was started, causing a controversy among Italian nurses. The issue of support staff, which has been debated in Italy for years, is also topical in the healthcare contexts of European and non-European countries and has always been a cause for discussion. Aim of the study: the aim of the study is to investigate nurses' attitudes on the inclusion of OSS-FC in care contexts and the motivations that may influence the adoption of a positive or negative attitude towards OSS-FC. Materials and methods: An observational study was conducted using a qualitative descriptive approach based on thematic content analysis. Eleven nurses agreed to participate in the interview. The interviews were conducted individually without the presence of other persons mainly at the home of the volunteer subjects in May 2024. Results: The analysis of the interviews suggests that subjective orientations can influence nurses' attitudes. Four themes emerged from the thematic content analysis for the subjects with predominantly negative attitudes: (1) fear of consequences; (2) job dissatisfaction; (3) personal experience;(4) judgement of competence. For the group with a predominantly positive attitude, three themes emerged: (1) accepting responsibility for nurses; (2) awareness; (3) confident expectations. Conclusions: A fundamental aspect that emerged from most of the interviewees was the lack of information and awareness among nurses with regard to legislation and the responsibilities arising from the activities performed by OSS-FC, the limits within which OSS-FC can perform these activities and the different role that the nurse will have to assume. It is therefore important for institutions to develop legislation that clearly defines the role that the nurse will occupy in the allocation process and on whom the responsibilities for care activities attributed to OSS-FC will fall. Hanno acconsentito a partecipare all’intervista undici infermieri.
