The aim of this thesis’ work has been to investigate the potential of flavin catalysis as a medium to produce H2O2 in either aqueous or biphasic environment. In doing so, it has been found that the catalytic process is feasible and the measured TON for the process has reached 120 on a 4 h time span. The catalysts of interest were flavin derivatives (isoalloxazine, alloxazine and deazaflavin), with a carboxylic moiety that was attached to try and increase water-solubility. A colorimetric method was employed to monitor the catalysis process. This method was based on the absorption of a blue complex formed by 3,3’,5,5’-tetramethylbenzidine and the action of horseradish peroxidase.

Abstract
The aim of this thesis’ work has been to investigate the potential of flavin catalysis as a medium to produce H2O2 in either aqueous or biphasic environment. In doing so, it has been found that the catalytic process is feasible and the measured TON for the process has reached 120 on a 4 h time span. The catalysts of interest were flavin derivatives (isoalloxazine, alloxazine and deazaflavin), with a carboxylic moiety that was attached to try and increase water-solubility. A colorimetric method was employed to monitor the catalysis process. This method was based on the absorption of a blue complex formed by 3,3’,5,5’-tetramethylbenzidine and the action of horseradish peroxidase.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
