The present study aims to investigate the phenomenon of stigma towards individuals with schizophrenia. Firstly, a theoretical overview is provided on the historical evolution of the conception of schizophrenia and stigma, analyzing their distinctive characteristics and then delving into the relationship between these and factors such as etiological and treatment beliefs regarding mental illness, empathy, alexithymia and empowerment. Subsequently, the investigation carried out in the general population is presented, describing the sample, the administered battery and the self-report questionnaires it comprises. Finally, the obtained results are discussed, focusing on significant aspects related to stigma, etiological and treatment beliefs and other constructs investigated, highlighting future perspectives from both clinical and research viewpoints
