Affrontare il lutto in ambito educativo: analisi del progetto di Death Education ‘Libellule nel cuore’ attraverso le parole delle insegnanti e delle educatrici coinvolte.

The following thesis presents a qualitative research study conducted on a Death Education (DeEd) program aimed at supporting grieving students and training educators and teachers, promoted by the "Libellule nel cuore" project in the Milan area and its province. Two specific objectives were identified: to identify the needs and motivations for seeking support and to outline the elements of the DeEd program useful for classrooms. The first chapter explores how death is addressed in contemporary Western culture, with references to Terror Management Theory (Greenberg, Solomon & Pyszczynski) and the processes of grief elaboration. The second chapter outlines DeEd and its roots, focusing on tertiary DeEd for child bereavement support and the possible implementation of DeEd programs in schools. The third chapter details the research involving 21 participants, educators, and teachers with an average age of 45.7 years (SD: 7.1), who participated in the DeEd programs organized by "Libellule nel cuore". During the data collection phase, semi-structured interviews were conducted, and thematic analysis (Braun and Clark, 2006) was performed on the data, resulting in six thematic areas: the need for support in managing emotional reactions related to loss; the need for professional guidance and assistance; the necessity for preparation to address the topic of death in schools; psychological and emotional support; an open and direct approach to addressing the topic of death; and the experience of sharing and community cohesion. Finally, the results, limitations, and future perspectives of the research were discussed.

La seguente tesi presenta una ricerca qualitativa condotta su un programma di Death Education (DeEd) per il sostegno di alunni in lutto e la formazione di educatori ed insegnanti, promosso dal progetto "Libellule nel cuore" nel territorio di Milano e provincia. Sono stati individuati due obiettivi specifici: identificare i bisogni e le motivazioni della richiesta di supporto e delineare gli elementi del percorso di DeEd utili per le classi. Il primo capitolo esplora il modo in cui la morte è affrontata nella cultura occidentale contemporanea, con riferimenti alla Terror Management Theory (Greenberg, Solomon & Pyszczynskie) e ai processi di elaborazione del lutto. Il secondo capitolo delinea la DeEd e le sue radici, con un focus sulla DeEd terziaria per il supporto al lutto infantile e sulle possibili implementazioni dei percorsi di DeEd nelle scuole. Il terzo capitolo dettaglia la ricerca che ha coinvolto 21 partecipanti, educatrici e insegnanti con un'età media di 45,7 anni (DS: 7,1), le quali hanno aderito ai programmi di DeEd organizzati da "Libellule nel cuore". Durante la fase di acquisizione dei dati, sono state condotte delle interviste semi-strutturate, mentre per l'analisi dei dati è stata eseguita un'analisi tematica (Braun e Clark, 2006) dalla quale sono emerse sei aree tematiche: bisogno di supporto nella gestione delle reazioni emotive legate alla perdita; bisogno di orientamento e assistenza professionale; necessità di preparazione per affrontare il tema della morte nelle scuole; supporto psicologico ed emotivo; approccio aperto e diretto nell'affrontare il tema della morte; esperienza di condivisione e coesione comunitaria. Infine, sono stati discussi i risultati, i limiti e le prospettive future della ricerca.
