Scolari greci all'Università di Padova, 1570-1600

The thesis aims to explore the presence of Greek students in Padua during the last decades of the 16th century. The research utilizes published archivial record, providing data accompanied by an analysis of the historical, cultural, and institutional context in which the University of Padua existed in the late 16th century. The work investigates the historical, social, and cultural dynamics that facilitated the existence of a significant community of Greek students in the UNiversity of Padua and the vibrant intellectual and student milieu that characterized Padua in the late 16th century. The ultimate goal of the research is to trace, as far as possible, the paths of each Greek scholar who attended the University in the three decades from 1570 to 1605, examining the courses taken, the network of contacts established within the university community, and the biographical data that could be identified. In doing so, the thesis aims to shed light on the stories of the students associated with the University of Padua and their impact on academic life in Padua.

La tesi mira ad esplorare la natura della presenza studentesca greca a Padova nelle ultime decadi del XVI secolo. La ricerca è condotta mettendo a frutto registri editi e materiali d'archivio. I dati sono corredati da un'analisi del contesto storico, culturale e istituzionale in cui l'Università di Padova si trovava durante la fine del XVI secolo. Il lavoro indaga le dinamiche storiche, sociali e culturali che hanno reso possibile l'esistenza di una importante comunità di studenti greci nello Studium patavino e il vibrante milleu intellettuale e studentesco che anima Padova sulla fine del XVI secolo. Il fine ultimo della ricerca è seguire, fin dove è possibile, le tracce di ciascuno degli scolari greci che hanno frequentato l'Ateneo nel trentennio dal 1570 al 1605, investigando i corsi frequentati, la rete di contatti intessuta dentro la comunità universitaria e i dati biografici che è stato possibile rintracciare. In tal modo la tesi tenta di illuminare le storie degli studenti legatisi all'Università di Padova e il loro impatto sulla vita accademica patavina.
