The thesis aims to present the educational and cultural process of the Yanomami indigenous people in the Amazon rainforest of Venezuela. The educational process was started and encouraged mainly by Salesian priests, missionaries in those places and witnesses of the first contacts with the Yanomami population. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter offers an in-depth analysis of missionary linguistics, and of the work of priests in the newly conquered lands. In the second chapter the values of the congregation of Salesian missionaries and the cultural elements and traditions of the Venezuelan Yanomami population are presented and described. The third chapter collects the history of Salesian in the Amazon region of Venezuela, from the begin of the first apostolic communities, and the work of priests aimed at helping, educating and protecting the indigenous population of the area, with a particular focus on the Yanomami. The fourth chapter is about the bilingual cultural project, specifically studied and arranged for the protection and integration of the Yanomami group in the Alto Orinoco area. It covers the objectives, methodologies and educational path of the project, from the first years to a more recent period. Finally, it’s related a general consideration on the educational project, and on the current situation of the Yanomami people.
La tesi si propone come obiettivo la presentazione del processo educativo e culturale degli indigeni yanomami presenti nel territorio amazzonico in Venezuela. Tale processo educativo è stato iniziato e seguito principalmente da sacerdoti salesiani, missionari in quei luoghi e testimoni dei primi contatti con la popolazione yanomami. L’elaborato si divide in quattro capitoli. Nel primo capitolo si offre un approfondimento sulla linguistica missionaria, sul lavoro dei sacerdoti nelle nuove terre conquistate. Nel secondo capitolo si presentano i valori della congregazione dei missionari salesiani e vengono descritti gli elementi culturali e le tradizioni della popolazione yanomami venezuelana. Il terzo capitolo raccoglie la storia della presenza salesiana nel territorio amazzonico venezuelano, dalla nascita delle prime comunità apostoliche al lavoro dei sacerdoti mirato ad aiutare, educare e tutelare le popolazioni indigene presenti in quella zona, con un particolare focus alla popolazione yanomami. Nel quarto capitolo viene esposto il progetto culturale bilingue nato specificatamente per la tutela, la protezione e l’integrazione del gruppo yanomami nella zona dell’Alto Orinoco. Vengono trattati gli obiettivi, le metodologie e il percorso educativo dai primi anni del progetto ad un periodo più recente. Per concludere, viene presentata una riflessione generica sul progetto educativo e sulla situazione attuale del popolo yanomami.
