The Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) was established in April 2001 following a United Nations resolution to enhance the contribution of forests to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and other global development goals. The CPF, comprising fifteen international organizations, including six UN entities, supports substantial forest programs by providing scientific and technical advice, contributing to the Global Forest Goals and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A significant initiative by the CPF was the Joint Initiative on Turning the Tide on Deforestation (JI TTD) in 2019, scheduled to run from 2022 to 2024. In April 2021, during the 16th session of the UN Forum on Forests, the CPF released this joint statement addressing 14 key points on deforestation. This thesis aims to analyze the CPF’s “Challenges and Opportunities in Turning the Tide on Deforestation” statement through a semi-systematic literature review, focusing on deforestation drivers, updating scientific data, analyzing changes in the statement’s approach, and discussing strategies for halting deforestation. The objectives are to review the CPF’s joint statement, identify changes in its approach and language, update information on deforestation drivers, discuss mitigation strategies, and organize findings to inform a review of the statement. The first part of this study includes a manual analysis of the most recent related reports on the subjectand the PSALSAR systematic review, involving a comprehensive search and selection process of recent papers. The findings on this literature review brings insights and guide the subsequent stage of the study, which present and discuss changes in the approach, language use, and commitments over recent years and previous versions of the Statement. The conclusions drawn from this semi-systematic review provide a critical update to the CPF’s joint statement, ensuring that the latest scientific data and insights on deforestation drivers are incorporated. This study helps to understand the perspective of international organizations, that are part of the CPF, on the matter of deforestation dynamics, contributing to global efforts in sustainable forest management.

Abstract
This study helps to understand the perspective of international organizations, that are part of the CPF, on the matter of deforestation dynamics, contributing to global efforts in sustainable forest management.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
