La Société Africaine de Pneumatique (SAP Olympic) de Bobo-Dioulasso (1968-2022) : Histoire et Patrimoine de l’industrie au Burkina Faso

We proposed to carry out a study on the history and industrial heritage in Burkina Faso, a country located in West Africa, with the pneumatics industry in Burkina Faso as a case study. The African Pneumatic Society, abbreviated as SAP Olympic, was created in 1972 with the status of a private company. The company is still in operation today, making it one of the oldest factories in the country since its independence in 1960. This study aims to contribute to a better understanding of the history of a company which played a leading role in the economic and social development of a country and whose past is part of the national collective heritage of all Burkinabè tire workers. To do this, we adopted a qualitative working methodology which made it possible to ask a fundamental question: what is the heritage value of the African tire company in Burkina Faso in a country undergoing economic change? The answer to this essential question will lead to prospects for the valorization and conservation of Burkina’s tire heritage.

Nous nous sommes proposé de mener une étude sur l’histoire et le patrimoine industriel au Burkina Faso, pays situé en Afrique de l’Ouest, avec pour cas d’étude l’industrie de Pneumatique au Burkina Faso. La Société Africaine de Pneumatique en abrégé la SAP Olympic a été créée en 1972 avec le statut d’entreprise privé. La société est toujours en activité aujourd’hui faisant d’elle l’une des plus anciennes usines du pays depuis son accession aux indépendances en 1960. Cette étude a pour objectif de contribuer à une meilleure connaissance de l’histoire d’une entreprise qui a joué un rôle de premier plan dans le développement économique et social d’un pays et dont le passé s’inscrit dans le patrimoine collectif national de tous les travailleurs burkinabè du pneumatique. Pour ce faire, nous avons adoptons une méthodologie de travail qualitative qui a permis de poser une question fondamentale de savoir : quelle est la valeur patrimoniale de la société africaine de pneumatique du Burkina Faso dans un pays en pleine mutation économique ? La réponse à cette question essentielle va aboutir à des perspectives de valorisation et de conservation du patrimoine pneumatique du Burkina.
