This MSc Thesis project’s purpose is to investigate different types of supramolecular hydrogels formed by a single aminoacid, Fmoc-Cysteine. A supramolecular hydrogel is a soft material with intermediate characteristics between a solid and a liquid where a 3D structure, formed in this case by single aminoacids through non-covalent interactions, incorporates a big amount of solvent. The hydrogel is formed through self-assembly process, which is a spontaneous re-organization of molecules after an external stimula in organized structures. This thesis project’s aim is to obtain different supramolecular hydrogels from the same single amino acid, to study their proprieties, morphology and change with external stimuli, i.e. H2O2.
Lo scopo di questo progetto di tesi di laurea magistrale è quello di studiare diversi tipi di idrogel supramolecolari formati da un singolo amminoacido, la Fmoc-cisteina. Un idrogel supramolecolare è un materiale morbido con caratteristiche intermedie tra un solido e un liquido in cui una struttura 3D, formata in questo caso da singoli amminoacidi attraverso interazioni non covalenti, incorpora una grande quantità di solvente. L'idrogel si forma attraverso un processo di autoassemblaggio, che consiste nella riorganizzazione spontanea delle molecole dopo uno stimolo esterno in strutture organizzate. L'obiettivo di questo progetto di tesi è ottenere diversi idrogel supramolecolari dallo stesso singolo amminoacido, per studiarne le proprietà, la morfologia e il cambiamento con stimoli esterni, ad esempio H2O2.
