Uno studio del rapporto fra il bodhisattva Jizō e il rituale mizuko kuyō

This paper intends to investigate the relationship between a sacred icon and a specific ritual, aimed at surrounding a moment of personal and social crisis, with mechanisms of compensation and overcoming. More specifically, it focuses on the link between the bodhisattva Jizō and the mizuko kuyō ritual, focusing in the first part on a historiographical and social reconstruction of the evolution of the bodhisattva, while in the second it focuses on the interdependence between abortion, the role of women in Japanese society until the 90s of the twentieth century and the sacred figure.

Questo elaborato ha intenzione di indagare il rapporto fra un’icona sacrale e un determinato rituale, volto a circondare un momento di crisi, personale e sociale, con dei meccanismi di compensazione e superamento. Più nello specifico, verte sul legame fra il bodhisattva Jizō e il rituale mizuko kuyō, concentrandosi nella prima parte su una ricostruzione storiografica e sociale dell’evoluzione del bodhisattva, mentre nella seconda si focalizza sull’interdipendenza fra l’aborto, il ruolo della donna nella società giapponese fino agli anni ’90 del XX secolo e la figura sacra.
