The objective of this thesis is to describe and analyse the Italian pension system and, in particular, the variety of financial solutions currently available (open-end funds, closed-end funds and PIPs) to compensate for the future unsustainability of the system itself, with a comparison of the costs and performance of these different types of financial instruments (graphically and mathematically), in order to understand which one may be the most convenient for Italian citizens.
