Integration is an important topic in the EU policy agenda. Even though it is an issue belonging to the competences of the MSs, the EU has an important role in coordinating and supporting MSs’ actions. In a reality where there are significant differences across the Union when it comes to integration policies, it is crucial to have an authority that can mitigate these differences and promote a more inclusive and general action plan. This action plan is launched and applied in the MSs through a MLG procedure, in which the initial project of the EU’s competent organ comes into practice in the final local community. The goal of this dissertation is to understand the relevance of integration policies, specifically in the Regione Veneto, analysing their correspondence with the actual needs of the beneficiaries of these policies. The subject of study of this work are Senegalese labour immigrants that have been in this region for about 30 years. The main questions that will be analysed are the following: how did integration policies evolve in Italy, specifically in Veneto in the last 30 years? Have the Senegalese community in the Regione Veneto benefited from integration policies? It is important to understand and answer these questions because migration and successful integration of third-country nationals are catalysts for development and inclusive society. There is a number of studies about MLG procedures, and labour immigration policies in Europe, but not enough attention was given to the effects of these integration policies, specifically in this targeted territory. Through a series of interviews which takes into consideration the various perspectives, clear answers will be given to these important questions, including some suggestions to improve the situation made directly by the subjects involved.
