The paper investigates the profound changes in international security dynamics resulting from the war in Ukraine. The study is structured into two chapters of introduction and a conclusion, in addition to the three central chapters, each of which addresses different aspects of the impact of the conflict. The introduction outlines the context of the war in Ukraine, the objectives of the paper, research questions, methodology, limitations and relevance of the study. It establishes the framework for understanding the wider implications of the conflict on global and European security structures. Chapter I provides a pre-war analysis of the European political, economic and social landscape. It examines the main European and international actors and organisations in the security system and reviews the main theories of international security, including Realism, Liberalism, Constructivism and Securitisation Theory. Chapter II delves into NATO's strategic realignment, military deployments, defence spending and NATO-Russia relations. It also assesses the European Union's response through its Common Foreign and Security Policy, energy, and border security. Finally, the chapter highlights regional security changes, focusing on Eastern European countries, regional initiatives and traditional neutrality. Chapter III explores the roles of global actors such as the United States, Russia and multilateral institutions such as the UN, OSCE and Council of Europe. It addresses diplomatic efforts, humanitarian interventions and peace negotiations, analysing their effectiveness in conflict resolution. The chapter also examines legal frameworks and allegations that influence the global order, including influences on global norms, perceptions of international law and breaches of trust. The final chapter answers the research questions, concluding how the war in Ukraine has redefined international security paradigms, accelerating changes already underway and opening new challenges for global stability.
