Justice and Development Party, Political Islam and Türkiye’s Changing Foreign Policy

This thesis aims to examine the rise of the JDP (Justice and Development Party) and its impact on the Islamic understanding in Türkiye, as well as the country's changing foreign policy. The JDP, established in 2001, has dominated Turkish politics for over two decades, and its rise has brought about significant changes in Turkish society, politics, and foreign relations. The party's Islamic roots and its commitment to democracy have attracted many voters, and its policies have influenced the role of Islam in Turkish politics. Moreover, the JDP's domestic and foreign policy choices have transformed Türkiye's position in the international arena, particularly its relations with the West and the Middle East. This thesis will analyze the JDP's political, economic, and foreign policy decisions, and their implications for the country's political and economic stability, as well as its role in regional and international affairs. By examining the rise of the JDP, this thesis will provide a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Türkiye as it navigates its changing role in the world.
