Through the case study of Orange Is the New Black ( 2013-2019 ) the paper proposes an in-depth study of the narrative strategies and character construction of choral series. Due to the presence of multiple characters and interconnected plots, choral series are characterized by a complex structure that allows them to explore a wide range of themes and points of view. Orange Is the New Black is in this regard an emblematic example, since it weaves together exciting and engaging stories while addressing major social issues, such as criminal justice, racial discrimination, and gender identity. After a section examining the basic characteristics of choral series, narrative and character-building principles, the first season of OITNB is addressed to focus on the characterization of the protagonist, Piper, and the overall narrative structure of the initial season, benchmarking subsequent seasons; a further chapter explores the creation and evolution of antagonists in the following seasons and the dynamics of conflict. Specific attention is paid to the fifth season, which is characterized by an extremely narrow time frame, with an analysis to the multilevel narrative in which the management of narrative lines helps to maintain the balance between pacing intensity and emotional coherence. Finally, we examine the composition of the creative team in relation to specific professional figures and the role played by the Netflix platform in the development of the series.

Abstract
Finally, we examine the composition of the creative team in relation to specific professional figures and the role played by the Netflix platform in the development of the series.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
