This thesis focuses on the pigment analysis and identification in the mural paintings of Girolamo Romanino, specifically the frescoes in the Duomo Vecchio (Old Cathedral) of Brescia, Italy. The study examines samples from the frescoes to check compatibility with the materials employed by Romanino. Using scientific methods including Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and SEM-EDS. The pigments are characterized to determine their chemical composition and nature. The primary aim of this research is to establish whether the materials used in these frescoes align with those typically found in Romanino’s known works from the 16th century.
