In the increasingly globalized healthcare landscape, effective medical translation is essential to facilitate equitable access to health information across linguistic barriers. This thesis examines the complexities of medical translation, with a focus on English-Italian translation within cardiology. It highlights the historical, linguistic, and cultural factors that shape medical terminology, translation theories, and techniques. The work addresses the challenges of translating specialized texts, such as research papers, patient information leaflets, informed consent forms, and medical advertisements, each carrying unique structural and communicative demands. Through translation and analysis of sample texts, the thesis demonstrates the importance of tailored strategies to ensure accuracy, clarity, and cultural relevance in medical translations. Findings suggest that a universal set of rules is insufficient; instead, translators must consider text type, audience, and context.
