This research work is aimed at reconstructing the historical development of the voiced velar occlusive sound *g in Common Slavic, particularly its lenition *g > ɣ. Common to several domains of Slavic, the lenition of the voiced velar occlusive *g is a phenomenon that has always attracted the interest of Slavists. This phenomenon has been addressed, for example, by Aleksej A. Šachmatov (1915), who described its reflexes, but especially by Nikolai S. Trubeckoj (1933), who was among the first to provide a phonological interpretation of it. Contemporary Slavistics textbooks seem to accept for this phenomenon the interpretation of Henning Andersen (1969). Andersen's in-depth study will be compared with other more recent and specific studies, with the aim of demonstrating whether the proposal therein on the origins and chronology of the phenomenon is acceptable or whether the problem needs further study. The critical and comparative work will be preceded and contextualized by recovering the definitions of the phenomena of lenition and spirantization in relation to the study of the phonological development of Slavic languages and the concept of Common Slavic.

Abstract
The critical and comparative work will be preceded and contextualized by recovering the definitions of the phenomena of lenition and spirantization in relation to the study of the phonological development of Slavic languages and the concept of Common Slavic.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
