Relazione tra abilità linguistiche e creatività linguistica di bambini bilingui italiani e croati dagli 8 ai 10 anni

The present thesis is focused on the relationship between bilingualism and creativity. Previous literature has found that bilingualism does have a positive effect on creative abilities, however, some researchers found this effect to be non–existent. In this research study, a relationship between bilinguals’ vocabulary and creativity is studied. Receptive vocabulary in both the Italian and the Croatian languages is examined, as well as different dimensions of creativity (fluency, flexibility, originality). Results in the study present a higher correlation between L1 vocabulary scores and creativity scores, compared to the L2 and creativity correlation. Fluency, flexibility, and originality scores do not differ between third grade and second grade students. Finally, the last hypothesis is also not confirmed, as fluency, flexibility, and originality do not differ between genders. Implications for future studies are included.

La presente tesi si basa sulla relazione tra bilinguismo e creatività. Finora la letteratura ha scoperto che il bilinguismo ha un effetto positivo sulle capacità creative, tuttavia alcuni ricercatori non hanno confermato questo effetto. In questa ricerca, viene studiata la relazione tra il vocabolario e la creatività nei bambini bilingui. Viene esaminato il vocabolario recettivo nella lingua italiana e nella lingua croata, nonché le diverse dimensioni della creatività (fluenza, flessibilità, originalità). I risultati dello studio presentano una correlazione più elevata tra i punteggi del vocabolario della L1 e i punteggi della creatività, rispetto alla correlazione tra L2 e creatività. I punteggi di fluidità, flessibilità e originalità non differiscono tra gli studenti di terza e seconda elementare. Infine, anche l’ultima ipotesi non è confermata, in quanto la fluidità, la flessibilità e l’originalità non differiscono tra maschi e femmine. Sono incluse le implicazioni per studi futuri.
