The present research aims to investigate the influence that specific emotional regulation styles (cognitive reappraisal or suppression) and the ruminative trait may have on the effectiveness of a heart rate variability (HRV) self-regulation training in a sample of young adults with subclinical anxiety symptoms. In the first phase, participants were selected based on the results of the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Questionnaire (GAD), and subsequently, screening was conducted through the semi-structured clinical interview (SCID). Emotional regulation style and rumination were assessed using the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) and the Ruminative Response Scale (RRS), respectively. In the second phase, EEG and ECG recordings were taken at rest for 5 minutes and during an emotional regulation task. After completing the task, instructions were provided for performing deep breathing (diaphragmatic) training to be done independently every day during the following week. At the end of the training, a reassessment was conducted, which included recording physiological indices at rest and during the same emotional regulation task.
l presente lavoro di ricerca si propone di indagare l’influenza che specifici stili di regolazione emozionale (rivalutazione cognitiva o soppressione) e il tratto ruminativo possono avere sull’efficacia di un training di autoregolazione della variabilità della frequenza cardiaca (HRV) in un campione di giovani adulti con sintomi subclinici di ansia. In una prima fase i partecipanti sono stati selezionati sulla base dei risultati al Generalized Anxiety Disorder Questionnaire (GAD) e successivamente è stato svolto uno screening attraverso l’intervista clinica semistrutturata (SCID). Lo stile di regolazione emozionale e la ruminazione sono stati valutati, rispettivamente, attraverso l’Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) e la Ruminative Response Scale (RRS). In una seconda fase, sono stati registrati l’ EEG e l’ECG a riposo per 5 minuti, e durante un compito di regolazione emozionale. Terminato il compito venivano fornite le istruzioni per effettuare il training di respirazione profonda (diaframmatica) da svolgere in autonomia tutti i giorni nella settimana successiva. A conclusione del training veniva effettuata una rivalutazione, che includeva la registrazione degli indici fisiologici a risposo e durante lo stesso compito di regolazione emozionale.
